Sonoric geography – addressing the silence of biogeography

In 2015, we called upon our colleagues to address a glaring oversight of potentially transformative frontier in biogeography – the geography sound (Lomolino et al. 2015).  Our purpose here is lay conceptual foundations, based on fundamental unifying principles biogeography, guide development nascent field sonoric geography.  We define as an emerging subdiscipline that attempts discover and articulate patterns geographic variation acoustic properties biological communities identify underlying, causal explanations for those patterns.We see at least two major benefits this initiative.  First, it will advance by expanding spectrum studied demonstrating how field’s fundamental, can be applied novel component diversity assemblages across principal dimensions (area, isolation, elevation/depth, latitude).  Second, research program will, synergism, fields soundscape ecology (Pijanowski 2011, Slabbekoorn 2018) (Wrightson 2000) integrating explicit context into their empirical investigations, applications conserving diversity, sensu lato—again, all guided biogeography.
